Traveling in Oceania
Once Australia itself was considered an entire continent, but as all the surrounding island countries began to be felt left out the entire region was grouped together to form Oceania. Australia by far dominates the region as far as travel goes, but small many islands in the western Pacific Ocean, like Fiji, Tonga, and Guam are still popular destinations in the continent.
For the most part Oceania is a hot and tropical destination, but some exceptions are New Zealand’s glaciated mountains and Tasmania’s cooler climate. Another exception with weather is the mountains of New Guinea which rise just short of 5,000 meters and are one of the few places you’ll find snow on the equator. The summit of Oceania is known as Carstensz Pyramid which I climbed it in October of 2011.
